Excessive levels of nitrate in an aquarium are responsible for poor fish colouration lethargy a failure to breed and excessive algae growth. In seawater high nitrates are also responsible for stunted coral growth. The table below is a rough guide to tolerable nitrate readings. Ideal Perameters: Seawater: 0 20ppmFreshwater: 0 50ppm
